Many of you did not know a fellow club member Joe stroh, but have heard that on Dec. 31st a fatal snowmobile accident occured on the canal towpath. The victim in this accident was my dear friend Joe Stroh. Let me tell you all about joe. Joe was 36 years old. He put his life on hold to take care of his two elderly parents, so that they did not have to go into a nursing home. This meant learning to check sugar, give shots, change diapers, feed, laundry, appointments, everything. This was a full time job, little time for himself. Joe was the type of person that would litterly give you whatever you needed if he thought that it would help. Even if it meant that he would have to go without. When Joe would get a free moment he loved to snowmobile. Snowmobiling was his passion. My children called him Snowmobile Joe. Joe was an experienced rider, always careful and aware of everything. I pick my brain thinking What had happend??? Guess we will never really know what happend but I know whatever it was he died doing what he loved best. His “getaway”. I will miss joe dearly!

I dont know if everyone has heard but the City of Oneida has passed legislation that it is now illegal to ride snowmobiles within the city of Onieda after 11pm. Im not talking the inner city I am talking the WHOLE CITY LIMITS!! Wheather your on a trail or not! As many of you are aware the city limits consist of a large area. Alot of this area is not rural at all. Alot is farmland in which our trails run through. To me this is crazy!!!!!!! I am not sure what exactly we need to do about this and in the next week or so I am going to figure out a “game plan” as to how to resolve this problem. I have heard thar a petition is in order. There are many questions that I have about a petition and I am going to try to get all the appropriate information so that once we get started on this we hit as little “bumps in the road” as possible.
    Thanks

I would like to take this time as well to inform you all that although the snow continues to fall our trails still lack the amount necessary to ride without damaging crops and private property. PLEASE respect our land owners and ride when there is sufficient enough snow to protect the ground below the snow. REMEMBER snowmobile trails are a PRIVALAGE NOT A RIGHT! Landowners in the Verona area have already contacted us regarding this issue. DO NOT RUIN IT FOR US ALL!!!! I realize the “itch” to ride; I myself have come down with this “syndrome”! I have found that the best way at this point in time to “scratch” this “itch” is to head north where there is sufficient snow. I rode the Camden, Turin, Redfield, and Lowville areas on 12/29/09 and the trails were very nice. Hope to ride our trails soon but till then, let’s use our heads and respect the property of the generous people that allow us to use their land for many years of winter fun.
    Thanks
    Tim Carr
