Obsatcle on trail, Verona Beach Trails
Hi. I’m not a snowmobiler, I run a sled dog team, often using Tri-Valley trails. First of all, I want to say thanx to so many of you who have shown me and my dogs the utmost respect and concern for our safety when trying to co-exist with snowmobilers on the trails. The reason I’m writing is to warn all you guys that there is a tree down across the trail in Verona Beach, and it could be deadly due to it’s location. It’s located soon after the trail enters the State Park from the fields, out by Poppleton Rd. As soon as you get on the long straight trail that crosses the swamp before turning down into the woods to go to the beach parking lot, look for the tree. It’s about 1/2 mile down the trail, and is about 3 feet off the ground, completely blocking the trail. Due to such a long straight run, I fear that a night rider could be traveling at a high rate of speed in the dark and not see the log until it’s too late. Someone could get killed! I notified the park ranger, but one week later it’s still there. (not the first time I’ve notified them of a hazard and they ignored it)

Hi again. I just ran the dogs the day before Xmas, and found that the trail at the Beach has been cleared finally. A couple of other logs were removed, as well, and the trail is now in good shape.

sidecut - Thanks for blogging this item. We ride these trails and I would hate to have one of my sons, husband, myself or anyone else get hurt. Happy New Year!

Thanks again for the info. The message was relayed to the West Rome Riders as it was there trail and taken care of before anyone was injured. I would like to take this time as well to inform you all that although the snow continues to fall our trails still lack the amount necessary to ride without damaging crops and private property. PLEASE respect our land owners and ride when there is sufficient enough snow to protect the ground below the snow. REMEMBER snowmobile trails are a PRIVALAGE NOT A RIGHT! Landowners in the Verona area have already contacted us regarding this issue. DO NOT RUIN IT FOR US ALL!!!! I realize the “itch” to ride; I myself have come down with this “syndrome”! I have found that the best way at this point in time to “scratch” this “itch” is to head north where there is sufficient snow. I rode the Camden, Turin, Redfield, and Lowville areas on 12/29/09 and the trails were very nice. Hope to ride our trails soon but till then, let’s use our heads and respect the property of the generous people that allow us to use their land for many years of winter fun.
Thanks
Tim Carr
