Obsatcle on trail, Verona Beach Trails
Thursday, December 24th, 2009Hi. I’m not a snowmobiler, I run a sled dog team, often using Tri-Valley trails. First of all, I want to say thanx to so many of you who have shown me and my dogs the utmost respect and concern for our safety when trying to co-exist with snowmobilers on the trails. The reason I’m writing is to warn all you guys that there is a tree down across the trail in Verona Beach, and it could be deadly due to it’s location. It’s located soon after the trail enters the State Park from the fields, out by Poppleton Rd. As soon as you get on the long straight trail that crosses the swamp before turning down into the woods to go to the beach parking lot, look for the tree. It’s about 1/2 mile down the trail, and is about 3 feet off the ground, completely blocking the trail. Due to such a long straight run, I fear that a night rider could be traveling at a high rate of speed in the dark and not see the log until it’s too late. Someone could get killed! I notified the park ranger, but one week later it’s still there. (not the first time I’ve notified them of a hazard and they ignored it)
